The Order of the Shield

A “White Violet” is a Zeta who has completed 50 years of Fraternity membership. This year, 529 Zetas achieved 50-year membership! Those honored are presented with a certificate at Zeta Day or at a local alumnae function. The Order of the Shield Recognition Service is usually conducted at the time of the presentation. The White Violet Pin, commemorating the honor, is a gift from the Fraternity. In addition, 75-year members receive recognition and a gift from the Fraternity, the White Violet Charm. ZTA celebrates the following membership milestones of those sisters celebrating 75 years in 2003:

Now living in Arizona, Valette Harer Curtis is an alumna of Alpha Sigma Chapter, initiated at Oregon State University in February, 1928. Since she could not travel to Zeta Day this year, members of the Tucson, Arizona Alumnae Chapter went to her and conducted the Order of the Shield ceremony at Valette’s home. Valette, a breast cancer survivor since her mastectomy in 1972, is proud of ZTA’s national philanthropy of breast cancer education and awareness. Valette notes that she “loves reading Themis and my local ZTA alumnae newsletter.”
